In Memoriam-Mid Year 2010

The world has lost many notable people so far this year, including groundbreaking singer Lena Horne, Polish leader Lech Kaczynski, heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio and major league pitcher Jose Lima. Here are some talented and interesting stars that we will miss and will always remember:

Rue McClanahan
1934 - 2010

Rue McClanahan won an Emmy for her role as Southern belle Blanche Devereaux in the sitcom "The Golden Girls," an unlikely hit about four aging - and often eccentric -- women. The show, which also starred Beatrice Arthur, Betty White and Estelle Getty, lasted from 1985 - 92. McClanahan, who was married six times, died of a stroke June 3. She was 76.

Gary Coleman
1968-2010

Former child actor Gary Wayne Coleman was best known for his role as Arnold Jackson in the TV sitcom "Diff'rent Strokes" (1978 to 1986). He suffered from a congenital kidney disease, a side effect of which limited his growth. His later years were plagued by financial and legal problems. In 2006, Coleman married Shannon Price, whom he met on the set of the comedy "Church Ball."

John Forsythe
1918-2010

New Jersey-born actor John Forsythe is best known for his portrayal of Blake Carrington on the hit television show "Dynasty" from 1981 to 1989. He was also the voice of Charlie in the 1970s TV show "Charlie's Angels" and the more recent "Charlie's Angels" movies. He died April 1 of complications from pneumonia. He was 92.

Dixie Carter
1939 - 2010

DixieCarter starred in the hit show "Designing Women," where she played Julia Sugarbaker. In addition to the CBS show about four women who ran an Atlanta interior design firm, Carter enjoyed a long stage and screen career. She died April 10 at age 70 of complications from cancer.

Lynn Redgrave
1943 - 2010

English actress Lynn Redgrave became a 1960s sensation as the freethinking "Georgy Girl." Redgrave came from a dynasty of actors, and while overshadowed by her older sister Vanessa, she had a successful acting career. Redgrave died May 2 of breast cancer.

Robert Culp
1930-2010

After a busy 50-year career, highlighted by great rapport with his famous "I Spy" co-star, Culp, 79, died March 24 after falling while walking near his L.A. home. Married several times, the actor also starred in free-lovin' film "Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice."

Peter Graves
1926-2010

Though his career spanned many roles, Graves is forever linked with TV's "Mission: Impossible" and an authoritative mien. (He was encouraged to pursue this path.) Graves, 83, died March 14 in Los Angeles after an apparent heart attack.

Corey Haim
1971-2010

In the 1980s, Haim achieved teen-idol status as a movie star, solo and alongside his actor pal. Fame waning, he battled addiction to at least one prescription drug and was found dead at age 38 on March 10 in Los Angeles.

Pernell Roberts
1928-2010

Star of two TV hits, Roberts walked away from "Bonanza" at the peak of its popularity. As a civil-rights activist, he urged NBC to stop a once-standard practice. Roberts died of cancer Jan. 24 at his Malibu, Calif., home. He was 81.

Teddy Pendergrass
1950 - 2010

Tragedy struck Pendergrass 28 years ago, but the R&B singer remained a swoon-worthy (photographic evidence) singer full of positive energy. He was 59 when he died Jan. 13 in Philadelphia after a struggle with colon cancer.
